J09 · Educational project model

Small food processing and aggregation

Consider processing equipment only when raw materials, quality, packaging and customers are clear. A small mill, dryer or food-preparation unit needs working capital as well as machinery. Discuss the complete operating cycle and the applicable product-safety requirements with the relevant specialists.

Storage, cold chain and food processingSuggested assessment route: Local credit assessment

Who and what the project needs

Existing food enterprises and technically supported cooperatives. Appropriate processing equipment; storage; water/power; hygiene; packaging; raw-material working capital.

How repayment or affordability should be tested

Use conservative capacity utilisation, saleable conversion yield and customer-payment timing. Separate equipment repayment from recurring stock purchases.

Critical risks

Seasonal raw materials, weak demand, unsafe products and underused equipment are major failure modes. Do not infer a protected market from import-substitution language.

What to prepare

Customer validation; supply agreements; safety/quality requirements; quotes; process plan; utility capacity.

What to measure

Saleable output, rejection rate, gross margin, working-capital days and net cash.
