Dairy and small-livestock improvement
Improve livestock activities with a complete plan for feed, water, housing, care and sales. Animal purchase is only one cost. Discuss the timing of production and income with your D-SACCO and confirm the available technical support before increasing herd size.
How repayment or affordability should be tested
Use recurring net milk or animal-sale income after feed, treatment and household costs. Include dry periods, mortality and delayed buyer payment.
Critical risks
Buying more animals without feed and water capacity can reduce performance. A buyer may reject poor-quality milk even when production rises.
What to prepare
Husbandry plan; water/fodder availability; animal-health review; purchase quotes; buyer/payment history; insurance terms if any.
What to measure
Net income, milk acceptance, animal survival and feed cost; no guaranteed production per animal.
