Cold storage and milk chilling services

Prepare a cooling service around regular volumes, compatible products and buyers who value the quality improvement. Include power, maintenance, hygiene and trained operation. Explore existing facilities and service agreements before financing another cold room or chiller.

Who and what the project needs

Producer organisations, milk collection operators and specialist service enterprises. Right-sized cooler; power backup; handling; monitoring; cleaning; qualified maintenance; collection logistics.

How repayment or affordability should be tested

Forecast paid throughput and occupancy, not theoretical capacity. Include downtime, energy and service costs before measuring debt coverage.

Critical risks

The documented rehabilitation of underused packhouses shows why equipment alone is insufficient. Refrigerant handling and food safety also require specialist controls.

What to prepare

Committed supplier/buyer volumes; technical design; site/power study; operating contract; food-safety plan; service quote.

What to measure

Paid utilisation, temperature compliance, spoilage and net operating cash flow.
